Šourek’s way through the Giant Valley

Route description:

"Take the blue hiking trail towards a small chapel and pass a turn to the lower station of the ski lift to Sněžka. Beside the small chapel we are standing on the remnants of a dam, which was built in the 16th – 17th centuries and which was used for the floating of logs when there was not enough water. The path behind the small chapel offers a view of the Lower Waterfall of Úpa.

In winter the route further is closed, but in summer we start going up to a place called Kovárna commemorating the famous mining history of the Giant Valley. The path takes us along the alpine border of the forest. When walking further on, you can admire a view of the opposite Úpa Valley. Go on to the border ridge. From here there are several options as to where to continue.

We can either take the Czech-Polish Friendship Route towards Špindlerovka following the red trail markers, or in the opposite direction to the Border Huts (Czech: Pomezní boudy), or set off across the Úpa Peat Bog. When walking across the peat bog we reach the Meadow Hut (Czech: Luční bouda), where we have the possibility to go down the valley of the White Elbe, which springs in the Úpa Peat Bog. We can also take the red hiking trail past Renner’s Cross and the Monument of Victims of the Mountains. By Výrovka turn left to follow green trail markers down to Pec pod Sněžkou. "
